What does it mean to be a signatory?
Join the Collaboration
In-principle support for the industry-led Proptech Energy Efficiency Features Standard.
A willingness and commitment to collaborate - as one property sector community - on the adoption of a research-backed property data attribute standard for energy efficiency features.
Signatories will be able to choose from a “basic set” and an “extended set” of energy efficiency features to enable the flexibility of a staged approach or the simplicity of direct adoption of the basic set or the extended set.
A commitment to work towards implementation within 18 months from release of the “Energy Efficiency Property Features List”.
Once adopted into your tech, these features will then be available to your customers - either real estate industry facing (such as appraisals/listings/marketing/data tech solutions) or consumer facing experiences (such as search criteria/property experiences/insights).
Your commitment to the standard can then be displayed using the statement “We are a signatory to the Proptech Energy Efficiency Features Standard” with a link to this website. This can be added to your website; either as a footer or in general company information or in corporate sustainability statements.
You can opt-out at any time. In this case you won’t be able to display the (see 6.) footer or promote your association with the collaboration and you will be removed from website.
How does this voluntary industry-led “features” standard work ?
This industry-led code of practice is voluntary. Voluntary codes codes can often respond faster to change than codes prescribed under law. Industry participants often feel more connected to industry-led codes too. This leads to greater commitment to follow the code.
Key elements of a voluntary code
They are self-regulated.
They can be sponsored by an industry association (in this case the Proptech Association Australia) or they can be in partnership with a government agency.
Membership of an industry association may be a condition of the code.
Unlike mandatory codes, voluntary industry codes are flexible and can be altered quickly in response to changing industry/consumer needs.
Compliance with a voluntary code can give you a competitive edge in the marketplace.
Usually this is promoted by displaying an industry-endorsed logo that customers should look for.
This industry-led code of practice is voluntary. It only applies to industry participants who sign up to it. It has been created and is administered by industry participants.
